It’s easy to assume I’m a focused person.
I show up on socials.
I learn new skills.
I create daily.
All while working part-time & freelancing.
I mean, isn’t that what focus looks like?
At first, I thought so, too.
But the more I reflected…
The more I sought coaching…
The more I said my goals out loud…
The more I realized, I’m not focused.
So, what’s focus?
Steve Jobs said it best:
Focus isn’t just about saying yes to your goal. It’s about saying no to a hundred other good ideas so you can give your best to what truly matters.
And for me?
Growing an audience isn’t what truly matters right now.
Sure, the 100k plaque would be cool.
But my real goal is financial freedom.
The hard part?
I know too many ways to get there.
Worse — I want to try them all.
Today I spoke with my coach about my recent content spree.
He mentioned it lacked direction. It was everywhere.
And he was right. It served no purpose.
Not long ago, my goal was to build a design studio.
Then it was to double down on YouTube.
Then it was to write a book on freelancing.
In the grand scheme of things, it all seems aligned.
All the dots sort of connect to my vision.
But here’s the truth:
At some point, I’ll hit a wall.
Not because I picked the wrong idea,
But because I never picked one.
I’ll become the bottleneck.
Because when you’re not obsessed with a single goal…
You drift. You dabble. You start things but don’t take them deep enough to attain mastery.
That’s where I’m at.
It’s tempting to say, “I’m young. I’ve got time.”
But honestly, being young isn’t an excuse I want to lean on.
It’s not an identity I want to use to justify a lack of emotional discipline.
What I need is simple (but not easy):
Make a clear plan
Stick to that plan
Only change it when a better plan shows up, not just a new one
Because there will always be new ideas.
Endless strategies.
Exciting detours.
But I have to filter them ruthlessly — the same way we filter decisions.
Right now, my goal isn’t just to grow my audience.
My goal is to make money with the skills I already have.
Freelancing. Design. Development.
The audience can grow as I go.
So yeah — it’s time to double down on freelancing.
Time to implement everything I’ve been learning.
It’s the boring little details that make the difference.
Let’s get to work.
Writing daily to refine my thinking,
Abdussalam
Stay purposeful & you won’t go astray.
hmmm. do i have what it takes?
Penning this down shows you've figured out what needs to be done. And I'm grateful you shared it out and I learnt from it. Thank you.
